CCM Poem of the Week – Airport Departure
Most of us are now looking forward to our summer holidays. Our Poem for this week – Moises Johnson’s (1 Foyle) “Airport Departure” – unexpectedly portrays how travelling can be much more than just the “hassle” of moving through an airport. It can in fact carry us to another state of being, to another world.
Moises’ poem is accompanied by images from Alexi Xanthea Mendez, 5 Liffey (airport) and Mia Devlin, 1 Bann (airplane). You can see all poems and art in the link below.
The last few copies of the 2025 CCM Creativity Book are available for €5. These can be ordered through the school or purchased in Bridge Street Books, Wicklow and Centra, Rathnew. All proceeds go directly to our 2025 chosen local charity, the Wicklow Hospice.
Airport Departure
The airport hums. A world in between.
Where dreams take off and fears convince.
Passport stamped. A gate unfolds.
Unknown streets and stories untold.
The engine roars. Ground falls away.
I’m leaving here. l'm drifting away.
And though I'm far from the place I began,
I feel more at home in this wide, open span.
For the thrill of departure, the leap into flight,
Is where I find life in the pale morning light.
