‘The Past in My Place’- Second Year Exhibition CBA 1
On Friday, 4 April, Coláiste Chill Mhantáin teamed up with Wicklow County Council Library Service to curate ‘The Past in My Place, an exhibition of Second year students’ CBA displays. The aim of the exhibition is to showcase the rich history of the county, while, at the same time, highlighting the diverse heritage of the students. There were over 40 displays. Four students from transition year (Finn Tierney, Howie Thomas, Urte Blazyte Mazrimaite and Sophie Ferguson) had helped mount this display, working alongside Gerlanda Maniglia from the Local Studies Library all day Tuesday. Projects included some local studies of Wicklow including Robert Halpin, the Famine and the Kilcoole Gun Running. There were some family stories including that of Sir George Woolmington, the Ancient Fuqing province of China and family genealogy.
Students thoroughly enjoyed showcasing their work to their classmates and members of their family who also attended the event. Guests included Wicklow historian and expert John Goodman and county archivist Catherine Wright.
Colásite Chill Mhantáin would like to take the opportunity to thank Wicklow Library and in particular Gerlanda Magnilia who was responsible for organising the display. They were excellent hosts and provided welcome refreshments on arrival. The exhibition is on display until April 28th at the Exhibition Space on the third floor of the library for all to see.

BIFE Trip
Fifteen First year girls and eight parents travelled to BIFE on Monday, 7 April. They were shown a presentation on all the courses on offer in the college, and the entry requirements, and then enjoyed a tour of the facilities. The girls were able to see students doing their hairdressing exams on models (they brought their friends to model), chefs doing their culinary exams, TV studios, sound engineering rooms, childcare rooms and facilities, and students making and painting ceramics. Finally, they were all treated to goodies in the canteen.
Many thanks to Gabriel Allen, Deputy principal of BIFE for being a very generous host on the day.
Gaisce Hike 2025
Well done to the last group of TY students who set out on the Gaisce Adventure on Thursday, 3 April. The sun was out for Day One of the hike which commenced in Rathdrum following the Avonmore River on to Trooperstown, for a total of 15km. Day Two was a 13K walk, this time from the Miners Village in Glendalough back once more to Trooperstown. The sun in the afternoon helped keep spirits high and the challenge was enjoyed by all.
A special thank you to Baltinglass Outdoor Education Centre for their incredible hospitality and enthusiasm throughout the hike.

TY Trip to Delphi
Day 1:
The TY students embarked on their much-anticipated trip to Delphi, greeted by beautiful weather that set the perfect tone for the adventure ahead. Upon arrival, the students eagerly participated in high ropes and Bushcraft activities. The high ropes course challenged their courage and teamwork, while Bushcraft provided them with essential survival skills and a deeper appreciation for nature.
As the sun began to set, the students gathered for a friendly game of football. The evening was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a healthy dose of competition, making it a perfect end to their first day.
Day 2:
Another lovely day awaited the students as they geared up for bog jumping. This thrilling activity involved navigating through an obstacle course set in the bog, testing their agility and endurance. The students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, cheering each other on and celebrating their achievements.
In the evening, the students enjoyed a game of basketball, showcasing their skills and teamwork once again. The day concluded with a heart-warming singsong session, where everyone gathered to sing songs in the common room, creating lasting memories.

Ladies Basketball
Monday, 7 April, marked the end of this year's matches for Second year Girls’ Basketball. They were matched with Avondale who took the win on the day. We had some great scores from Amy Snell, Tonya Kayembe with super defence from Merelyn Dube, Mya Crean Dunne, Soliat Aroyen and Aoife Lane. Although the final score was 32-8, the girls worked really hard and were thrilled with their progress both as players and as a team since starting in January. Thank you to our wonderful TY students, Sophie Ferguson, Abbie Mai Delaney and Kayla Ann Hill and Fifth year student Michaela Hunarova who have done the scoring and worked the clock for all matches this year.

Larry Doyle Cup First Year Hurling Semi-Final
CCM 6-10 Mountmellick CS 6-3
CCM First year students had to dig deep to overcome determined opposition from Mountmellick on Tuesday, 8 April. It was the Laois side who opened the scoring but CCM dominated the early exchanges which kept the team ahead on a score of 3-5 to 2-2 at half time. However, a resurgent Mountmellick got four goals in the second half to keep the pressure on CCM up to the final whistle.
It was a great team performance overall, with some great individual displays from Simon Lynch, Jamie Noctor and Charlie Lawlor to get the crucial goals and also tireless defending in the backs from Jack Nolan, Luke McCoy, Davy Driver and Tiernan Nolan, and Ryan Cassidy who made a big impact in the second half.
Thanks to Callan Keenan Jackson helping out on the day. The lads can now look forward to a Larry Doyle Cup final after Easter.
