Wreath-making workshop

On Thursday and Friday last, 11 7 12 December, over 30 parents joined us for the Christmas wreath-making workshop. It was lovely to have parents from each year group in attendance. With tea and coffee, and plenty of chats and laughs, and guided by Mairead Melia, the group created some lovely wreaths, all varied and each one unique. A big thank you to Mairead, who led the entire workshop and who is able to make it all look so easy! Mums, dads and grandparents had a lovely morning.

First Year Christmas Trip

Monday 8th December saw all First year students along with their mentors and tutors making their way to LeisureMax in Wexford to start off the festive season. They enjoyed four hours of a range of activities from zorbing to escape rooms, from laser tag to bowling to name but a few. In between the activities there was also time to sample pizzas, chicken nuggets, slushies and plenty of treats.

A most sincere thank you is due to Aileen and her team who not only kept the 1st years busy and entertained but also managed to look after the teaching team too. And we are delighted to add that Aileen was very complimentary of the excellent behaviour of all students.

A thoroughly enjoyable Christmas trip all round 🎅 #LeisureMaxWexford

Third Year Christmas Trip

On the 10th December all Third Year students travelled to Movies@Gorey. Students were given five films to choose from and democratically voted to see the epic Christmas classic “Home Alone”. It was a great opportunity for students to bond with their classmates while enjoying popcorn and a soft drink of their choice.

Gifted

The students who take part in the TY Creative Craft and Design module recently took a trip to the RDS to attend “Gifted”, The Contemporary Craft and Design Fair, Ireland’s iconic Christmas craft fair. With thousands of crafts and designs on display, students browsed through over 400 stalls exploring new craft ideas and designs they could take back to the classroom, from wreaths made from upcycled scarves to hand-knitted goods, jewellery and so much more. Students thoroughly enjoyed the day and even took the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping.

🏀🏀🏀East Regional Basketball Winners 🏀🏀🏀

Our Under 16 Boys' Basketball team travelled to the Oblate Hall on Tuesday, 16 December, to compete in the Regional Plate finals against King’s Hospital. These students have trained hard all this term with many an early morning to get themselves ready for this.

King’s Hospital definitely had the advantage of height on the day which unsettled CCM in the opening quarter, but as the game progressed, Dáire Kenny, Michael Jakubowski, Luke Doyle and Nadal Kingne boxed out and sent Rían up the court for fast break scoring opportunities. CCM trailed in this quarter until they started to play their own game, gaining confidence as Luke and Rían Gledhill hit some superb shots against a very tight defensive team.

CCM had to block out the deafening KH supporters and maintain their focus on every play. Outstanding defending and rebounding from Dáire Kenny and Nadal Kingne were pivotal to CCM counterattacks and Luke Doyle, Michael Jakubowski and Rían Gledhill took these opportunities to push ahead in the third and fourth quarters. With tired legs the bench played their part on the day to allow CCM to finish 10 points ahead of Kings Hospital on the buzzer.

It was a well-deserved win for a team that showed determination, sportsmanship, and commitment not only in this final but in all their games leading to this.

Junior Rugby

Pres DLS Bagenalstown: 5 – CCM: 69

CCM Juniors delivered a brilliant team performance as they travelled to Carlow on Wednesday, 17 December, to play Pres DLS Bagenalstown in the quarter final of the Duff Cup.

Led by captain, Luke Connolly, the CCM lads gave their best performance of the season so far as they kept things simple and direct in difficult conditions. The back row of Luke, Bill Guinan and Eoin Treanor set a platform for the team to move the ball and create opportunities out wide. First-half tries from Alex Tyson (2), Josh Callery, Alex Healy, Luke Connolly, Daniel Connolly and Tamati Rangitaawa gave CCM dominance on the score board with Alex Healy also adding four conversions. The second half saw the introduction of CJ Armstrong, Cian Collins, Diarmuid Stone, Zack Hollingsworth, Ryan Dunne, Rory Grove and Adam Ryan as CCM kept the pressure on scoring four more tries to confirm their place in the semi-final vs Newpark Comprehensive in January.

The semi-final place also secures a first-round tie in the Father Godfrey Cup with St Fintan’s Sutton on January 8th in Greystones RFC.

Leinster Junior Football Round 3

CCM 6-13 PRES CARLOW 1-6

CCM finished off the group stages of the Leinster competition with a great win over Pres Carlow in CCM on Thursday, 18 December. Both teams came into this game 2/2, knowing the winner would top the group and have a home quarter-final.

The game some of the best football this team has played and they attacked the game from the outset taking a 1-3 to 2 point lead after 15 minutes, with the goal coming from the excellent Harry Butler. Full forward, Alex Mernagh, was in top form, supported well by his two corner forwards Kale Conyard and the lively Daniel Connolloy. Goals from Mernagh and Butler, alongside great points from Rhys Behan, Daniel Connolly and Mernagh saw CCM lead 3-8 to 1-4 at HT.

CCM defended extremely well in the first half with Harry Messit, Luke Connolly and Sam Conyard all turning over possession and launching attacks, while keeper Jayden Healy pulled off some great saves including a Pres penalty. Alex McKenna, who was given the task of picking up the Pres Carlow danger man after 10 minutes, was exceptional in defence and also launched many attacks.

CCM started the second half brightly and a superb team goal saw them take full control of the game. Cathal Byrne turned the ball over and quick play involving the brilliant Nathan Gough and David McCormack saw Sean O’Brien, who was exceptional on the day, crash the ball to the net. CCM introduced Ben O’Leary, Harry Bowen, Sean Byrne, Michael Carroll, Rian Ward, Josh Smullen, Rory Grove and Alfie Wallace in the second half and this certainly didn't weaken the side, with all players contributing massively in the second half. Further scores from Alex Healy, Daniel C, Sam Conyard, Mernagh and Butler saw CCM win on a scoreline of 6-13 to 1-6.

Pres Carlow, to their credit, and despite missing players due to other matches/ school commitments, battled to the end and will no doubt be a different team if we meet again. Well done to the lads on the win which sees them 3/3 in Leinster and a home quarter-final after Christmas.
