☘️Seachtain Na Gaeilge ☘️
Bhí SNAG ar siúl i CCM!
From 9–13 March, CCM celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge with a range of fun and engaging activities that encouraged students to use and enjoy the Irish language throughout the week.
Students took part in daily “Nath an Lae” competitions which challenged their knowledge of seanfhocail and Irish phrases. Congratulaions to the winners: Sean Hyland TY2, Grace Sweeny 2 Liffey, Vedansh Tyagi 2 Slaney, Ms. Rawson, Charlie Seery Frier 2 Slaney, Brann Morrissey 6 Slaney, Lilly Jameson 2 Foyle, Layla O'Connor 6 Erne, Robbie Jameson 3 Erne, Tadgh Redmond 6 Foyle.
Our Fifth Year Mentors organised a fantastic table quiz for all First year students as part of the celebrations. Students worked in teams to answer five rounds of ceisteanna as Gaeilge, with the top teams receiving some excellent prizes. A great time was had by all! A special mention and go raibh míle maith agaibh to our Mentors for organising such a successful event for our First year students.

Fifth year students also put their knowledge to the test by taking part in their own Tráth na gCeist, while First year students combined their Irish language skills with their creativity in a poster competition, with all Irish classes producing some fantastic artwork.

On Thursday, Ms Travers facilitated a wonderful traditional music workshop, celebrating Irish culture and music. The highlight of the week was our annual “Lón Gaeilge”, where students came together at lunchtime to chat with their friends as Gaeilge in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

Well done to everyone who took part and helped make Seachtain na Gaeilge such an enjoyable and successful week in CCM!

Wood Burning and Design Club
The first day of Coláiste Chill Mhantáin's Wood Burning and Design Club last Tuesday,10 March, kicked off to a great start.
The club, aimed toward First year students, saw great numbers and engagement where students were able to design artwork to burn onto wooden plaques/items and practise their artistic technique. Some students created bespoke keychains for themselves and for family members. These designs were created using pyrography machines purchased under JCSP funding which the club can use in conjunction with programmes in the school.
Wood Burning and Design Club runs every Tuesday for First year students.

Theatre Trip: The Crucible
On Thursday, Sixth year students from Mr Mackey’s English class visited the Gaiety Theatre to see a performance of their single text ‘The Crucible’. The play was excellent and gave students an important insight into how the themes and characters are presented in a live performance. The students all gave positive feedback on the performance and noted how it will help them in the coming weeks and months.

First Year Girls’ Basketball
The First Year Girls’ basketball team played their quarter final away to Bridgetown Community School in South Wexford on Friday, 13 March. The girls have been working hard in training and this could be seen with how they defended in the first quarter. They managed to keep Bridgetown scoreless. CCM scored 18. By the third quarter Bridgetown had pulled back the scoreline to 14 -22. However, CCM did very well in the final quarter and won the game by 10. Final score 26-16
The CCM Girls’ basketball team then played a semi-final v Blackwater Community School, Lismore. This was the first time a First year girls basketball team have reached a semi-final. They girls have played so well as a team, improving each game. The game was so close the whole way through with only 1 or 2 scores separating the teams the whole way. Unfortunately, Blackwater pulled away in the final quarter with the final score at 22-13.
The girls have been a great team all year and it’s been great see them improve and learn the game of basketball. They are already talking about the final next year.

Leinster Semi Final
CCM: 4-5 V Moyne CC: 3-14
The CCM Juniors contested the Leinster Semi-Final on Thursday, 19 March, versus Monye CC Longford in a sunny Kinnegad GAA club. After clinching the South Leinster title two weeks ago, the lads came into this full of confidence but met a very impressive Moyne outfit.
CCM started well with the first score from Harry Butler but Moyne responded with 4 points in quick succession. CCM gained some control and Kale Conyard finished a great team move with a well-taken goal. Alex Mernagh registered a point in between two from Moyne before a killer blow saw CCM concede a goal to leave them trail 1-8 to 1-2 at half-time.
The first two points of the second half went to CCM courtesy of Mernagh and the excellent Rhys Behan. Scores were exchanged between both sides with Butler and Mernagh finding the net for CCM after excellent work from Ben O’Leary, Nathan Duffy and Rian Ward.
CCM trailed by 3 with ten minutes to go and will be frustrated as they missed a couple of goal chances in this time to take control, but 1-1 from Moyne saw them lead by 7 before a Mernagh point on full time saw CCM fall to a 6-point defeat.
Everyone tried their best and battled to the end despite missing some key players to injury. The lads can be very proud of their efforts and attention now turns to the Wicklow Junior A Championship Semi-Final after Easter.

First Year Hurling Blitz
The team’s first outing together on Thursday, 19 March, proved to be a valuable learning experience, beginning with a tough 9–5 defeat to Arklow CBS where they showed great determination and work rate throughout. Kealan Byrne O’Connor and Max Kiernan were outstanding, leading by example with their effort and skill. This resilience continued in a 10–7 loss to Avondale Community College, with the team battling hard and never giving up, and Kealan Byrne O’Connor again making a big impact.
A tighter contest followed against Arklow Gaelcholáiste na Mara, ending in a 3–1 loss, where defensive discipline and work rate were key positives despite limited scoring chances. The team’s efforts were rewarded with an excellent 10–3 win over Coláiste Bhríde, showcasing strong teamwork, energy, and well-taken scores. In their final game, they remained competitive in a 7–5 loss to Presentation College Bray, demonstrating great character and commitment in both attack and defence.
Overall, this was a great first outing and valuable preparation for the group as they continue to develop and build towards upcoming championship games against Dunlavin Community College and Naas CBS.
