TY Careers Day @ the RDS
On Friday,19 September, the CCM TY year group attended both the Worldskills Ireland career event and the Higher Options career event at the RDS in Dublin. At the Worldskills event, the students witnessed live apprenticeship-focused competitions, where Ireland’s top apprentices and trainees showcased and demonstrated their skills and their talents in real time.
The students observed and explored a wide range of opportunities in areas such as Engineering (inclusive of plumbing, mechanical, & electrical), Culinary Arts, Digital Technology, and the Creative Industries (inclusive of hairdressing, beauty therapy, and painting & decorating). Students also had the opportunity to attend interactive workshops using virtual reality headgear and listen to people's experience of working in a particular sector, for example Katelyn Cummins (2025 Rose of Tralee) spoke about her experience of training to be an electrician.
At various stands throughout the event, students had the opportunity to meet employers face-to-face and learn about future employment and training opportunities open to them. At the Higher Options event, the students visited the information stands representing Irish, (some) UK & (some) EU universities, colleges and various training providers who were showcasing their range of study opportunities. At Higher Options, students also had the opportunity to attend career-focused talks in areas such as Science, Law, Art and Engineering.
Overall, the day was an excellent opportunity for the students to gather practical information to help with their post-secondary school choices.
Just 1 Life
On Wednesday, 24 September, Transition Year Students attended the inaugural ‘Just 1 Life’ presentation in Bray’s Mermaid Arts Centre. Members of An Garda Síochána, Wicklow Fire Service, Wicklow Country Council, and Wicklow Rotary Club provided the students with invaluable information in relation to Road Safety, and the need to act responsibly on the roads. Students came away with a keen awareness of the dangers of speeding, drink/drug driving, and mobile phone use while driving. Impactful stories were shared from the locality, and many lessons were learned.
Leinster Post Primary Schools Golf Competition
On Monday, 22 September, 22 players travelled to Padraig Harrington’s home club of Stackstown Golf Club in Rathfarnham to take part in the Leinster Post Primary Schools Competition.
In glorious sunny weather, students played 18 holes on The Cottage course. Golf Ireland changed the competition this year and instead of age groups, the competitions were based on handicaps.
In the Boys Net Championship, Danny McCoy finished in overall 1st place with 40 points, followed closely by Joe Murphy in 3rd place with 37 points.
In the Boys Scratch Championship, Jack Neville finished in overall joint 2nd place with a score of 3 over, Toby Murphy was one behind in 3rd place with 4 over and Ronan Merrigan was tied 5th with a score of 6 over.
Many thanks to Sheila and Caroline from Golf Ireland for organising and to Stackstown Golf Club for hosting the event.

Girls’ Basketball
🏀CCA 24 : CCM 22🏀
Super well done to Coláiste Chill Mhantáin Girls’ Basketball team who played extremely well against Coláiste Craobh Abhainn. Although it wasn’t our day, it was a great start to the year. A special mention to Kayla Kearney, Jan Musiol, Merelyn Dube and Soliat Aroyeun. Maith sibh!

U16 and U19 Boys’ Basketball
With the league off to a busy start, our U16 and U19 Boys have now played two of their league matches, against East Glendalough and Greystones Community College. Last week saw the lads playing EGS at home in very exciting games and come away with two wins. Our U19s played first with each quarter leaving very little between the score lines. Showing great teamwork and commitment, CCM edged forward to take the win in the final quarter. Our U16 had a much easier run in their game coming out convincing winners with a scoreline of 55-16.

In the second league game v GCC, again our U19 game saw very little between the teams until the 3rd and 4th quarter when CCM pulled away, displaying some super defensive commitment to win 49-30. Unfortunately, our U16s left the game on the court with an 8-point deficit, despite their best efforts. 29- 32 to GCC.

Three wins out of four leave the lads in a good position going forward. Well done to all.
Wicklow Schools’ Cross-Country Relays
A number of students travelled to Avondale to race at the Wicklow Schools Cross Country Relays on Tuesday, 23 September. There was a great atmosphere and perfect running conditions in one of the best cross-country courses. The event consisted of three students per team, all running 500m and we had ten teams representing CCM.
We had some great results with the Fifth year boys' team of Oscar Dunne, Daniel Mitchell and NJ Sinnott winning the senior boy's race. The junior mixed team relay of Aoife Lane, Charlie Seery Frier, Shane O'Dowd and Sadhbh Fitzsimons had an exciting race and finished in a very close fourth place.

The students represented the school extremely well, showing great determination and sportsmanship in both their own races and supporting one another throughout the day.

Looking forward to the next event!
Frisbee Friendly
On a surprisingly sunny and wind-free Wednesday, 24 September, CCM hosted John Scottus for the annual Wicklow friendly. 75 students from CCM represented the school over five teams in three different divisions and John Scottus brought out a further 48 students. It was wonderful to see so many young people from Wicklow playing the sport.
Our first senior team faced off against John Scottus, seeing stunning flow up the pitch. The handler movement at the back was particularly excellent and created lots of swing options, using the full width the pitch.
Our second senior team found JS to be tough opponents, really struggling to stop their long game, but by the end of their match, our lads were playing much more cohesively on offense, and their defence saw countless turns and great spirited play.
The junior boys saw the first outing of our First year students, and they did not disappoint! The first junior boys team played well in the conditions and their coach for the day, Zaac Quinn, was delighted with their calm offence and short reliable passes.
The second junior team also played two matches, and they particularly shone in their aggressive defence, getting under every disc, taking them down and throwing their bodies around in some wild layouts, particularly from Chris Delahunt.
Finally, our girls' team, coached by Toby Keating, had a tough run of it. The JS side was particularly experienced and were hard to stop from scoring. Again, though, our girls were able to use short quick passes to move the disc, and they improved throughout the match, rallying with more thoughtful defence by the end.
All in all, it was a great first set of matches for the sport this academic year in the county and we look forward to our upcoming senior blitz in November.

Senior Girls Cup Match
On Thursday, 25 September, our senior girls’ soccer team travelled to Milltown to play Alexandra College in the first round of the Leinster Cup. Alexandra College started off strong in the first half and were first to go on the scoreboard. Kirsten Hart was denied the chance to put CCM on the scoreboard in the first half.
CCM started the second half strong with a well-deserved goal from Robyn Loughran. In the end, Alexandra College proved to be stronger on the day. Well done to Millie Phelan, Gráinne Murphy, Kelly Kavanagh and Annabelle Killeen played well throughout the game. Well done to the girls on their first match of the season. They are looking forward to starting their league campaign for the year. Onwards and upwards from here⚽️
